Salman Khan of the Khan Academy got started creating online learning modules when he was trying to help a cousin who was struggling with math. Khan’s clear and simple explanations of everything from conic sections to the anatomy of a neuron have created a following from around the world. He now has more than 2100 videos covering arithmetic to calculus, along with chemistry, biology, physics, finance and history.
In this TED talk, Salman puts forth the idea of flipping the curriculum so that students can learn at their own pace by watching modules and practicing. That frees up class time so that instructors (and peers) can focus on helping students grasp concepts that may be confusing. A “flipped” approach is perfect for the delivery of online content.
